The AAMC joined 21 higher education organizations requesting that the Department of Education delay Gainful Employment and Financial Value Transparency (GE/FVT) reporting requirements and address other concerns over implementation of recently finalized institutional and programmatic accountability rules.

The timeline for the implementation of the new GE/FVT reporting requirements takes effect on July 1, with the first reporting deadline on July 31. The letter describes that the short timeframe leaves higher education institutions with little time to familiarize themselves with these reporting requirements and clarify new definitions established by these regulations.

“Given the delays with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) process, and the need for institutions to package student aid properly, we believe that the primary focus at this time should be ensuring the smoothest FAFSA process possible to help students best decide where to pursue their postsecondary education.”

The AAMC submitted comments to the Department of Education in June 2023 that raised concerns about the proposed changes related to gainful employment and the debt-to-earnings rate, FVT reporting requirements, and the administrative burden on medical education institutions [refer to Washington Highlights, Oct. 6, 2023].
