Table B2. USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 CK Scores of First-Year Residents, by Specialty

2018-19 First-Year Residents

The table below displays statistics on USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 Content Knowledge (CK) scores for first-year residents in 2018-19, by specialty. For example, while 10.5% of first-year anesthesiology residents had Step 2 CK scores above 259, only 1.9% had both Step 1 and Step 2 CK scores above 259. Tables are available for ACGME-accredited pipeline specialties (i.e., specialties that lead to initial board certification). Data include graduates of MD-granting and DO-granting U.S. and Canadian schools as well as graduates of international medical schools. For individuals who took the USMLE Step 1 or USMLE Step 2 CK more than once, the most recent score was used in the analysis. Please contact residentreport@aamc.org with any comments or questions.

Selected Finding: The distribution of USMLE scores varies widely across specialties.
