Outgoing AAMC chair Elliot J. Sussman, M.D., M.B.A., launches the 2009 AAMC Annual Meeting Leadership Plenary in the Hynes Convention Center auditorium.

A Group on Institutional Advancement session at the 2009 AAMC Annual Meeting featured nationally acclaimed authors Pauline Chen, M.D., and Jerome Groopman, M.D., right, in a session focused on the state of U.S. medical care and the experiences that shaped the careers of the two influential and widely published physician-authors.

The Minority Student Medical Career Awareness Workshops and Recruitment Fair provides more than six hours of exhibits, interactive sessions, face-to-face question-and-answer sessions, along with other programming designed to help tomorrow's doctors understand what goes into a career in medicine.

The minority career fair includes sessions where prospective medical students can meet face-to-face with pre-health advisors, guidance counselors, and school administrators. Parents are also welcome to attend the event.

A fife and drum corps greeted annual meeting attendees as they filed into the Hynes Convention Center auditorium ahead of the Sunday Leadership Plenary featuring the Chair's Address, the President's Address, and the Keynote Address.

The 2009 annual meeting featured the first sessions of the newly retooled Group on Women in Medicine and Science (GWIMS), which explores the contributions women make in academic medicine. The GWIMS reception was co-sponsored by the Council of Deans and featured a poster presentation highlighting institutional programs.

167 exhibitors demonstrated some of the latest technology in medical education in the convention center's exhibition hall. Also featured were displays from medical schools, publishers, medical education technology companies, and AAMC service programs.
