Health Care Reform: Ready or not, here it comes…..

This year has been a roller coaster as health care reform has been discussed and debated. The battles over insurance and payment reform, however, have not addressed the fundamental need for delivery system reform. Regardless of the political debate, there is still much that we can do as Academic Medical Centers to begin to lead the way.

A Year in Review: Variations Revisited

This session will show how Academic Medical Centers have been taken to task for their high cost care environments. We will discuss the various factors that contribute to variations and will review the work of 11 AMCs who are trying to "move the needle" on reducing variations in the cost of care.

Speaker:
Steve Lipstein
President, BJC HealthCare

Preparing for Reform: Bending the Cost Curve
We want to stimulate a robust discussion about issues associated with controlling the costs and maintaining the quality of care in patient populations that we manage. The speakers are examples of COTH members who have had success in managing health costs and have introduced innovative benefit designs to either keep their patients healthier and/or deliver care in more efficient settings. They will discuss the successes and "lessons learned" from these initiatives.
