Registration for this meeting is open to all medical school
admissions officers. This three-day conference brings
together a broad representation of admissions professionals from
medical schools across the United States, sharing the key tools and strategies
that will be critical in meeting the rapidly changing demands of
our programs. The conference also provides opportunities
to network and build strong, symbiotic professional relationships.
This year, we are sharing the conference facility with the records
and registrars group, allowing us to minimize costs while optimizing
support of our agenda. Though most of our time will be spent in
an exclusive program intended to meet the needs of both new and
experienced admissions officers, the two groups will come together
for several joint sessions. We will be presenting important data
on key topics, including the MCAT review, the pre-medical curriculum,
electronic letters of recommendation and other changes in AMCAS,
criminal background checks, holistic review, and external influences
in the admissions process.
We live in a time of great change, and we face both trying challenges
and enormous opportunities in medical school admissions. Working
together and collaborating with the staff at the AAMC and our colleagues
among the health professions advisors, we can continue to move forward.
I welcome you, on behalf of the GSA Committee on Admissions, to
our 2009 Professional Development Conference.
Robert A. Witzburg, M.D.
Chair, GSA Committee on Admissions
