VSAS for Home Schools
New Host Institutions Accepting VSAS Applications in 2010!
In addition to more U.S. AAMC member schools joining VSAS as host
institutions in 2010, VSAS has expanded availability to members
of the AAMC's Council of Teaching Hospitals and Health Systems (COTH)
through a pilot program this year.
The Visiting Student Application Service (VSAS) is an AAMC application
designed to streamline the application process for senior "away"
electives at other U.S. LCME medical schools and independent academic
medical centers that are members of the Council of Teaching Hospitals
and Health Systems (COTH). This service requires students to submit
just one application for all institutions, effectively reducing
paperwork, miscommunication, and time. VSAS also provides a centralized
location for managing offers and tracking decisions. It was created
at the request of two GSA committees: Committee
on Student Records (COSR) and Committee
on Student Affairs (COSA).
When can I use VSAS?
After launching in April 2008, VSAS remains open indefinitely.
If you are not a VSAS user, your school's Primary Contact must add
you as one. Once added, you will receive the "VSAS: New User
Instructions" email which will explain how to access the service.
Is my school a VSAS home school?
Potentially, yes. Any U.S.
LCME medical school whose students apply to electives at one
of the host institutions below is a VSAS home
school.
Which host institutions will use VSAS?
In addition to more U.S. AAMC member schools joining VSAS as host
institutions in 2010, VSAS has expanded availability to members

through a pilot program this year.
