AAMC Briefs Capitol Hill on Healthcare Innovation Zones
Academic medical center leaders held a Capitol Hill briefing for congressional staff on the transformative potential of HIZs as part of national health care reform. The event was hosted by the AAMC and the CAMC.

The Congressional Academic Medicine Caucus (CAMC) is an informal, bipartisan group of Members of Congress dedicated to maintaining and strengthening our nation's reputation as having the world's most advanced medical care. CAMC members strive to educate their colleagues on the unique health care, research, and training missions of teaching hospitals and medical schools.

CAMC Co-chairs

Congresswoman Allyson Y. Schwartz

Allyson Y. Schwartz (D-PA)

U.S. Representative Allyson Y. Schwartz is serving in her third term representing Pennsylvania's 13th congressional district. The 13th district includes both the close-knit neighborhoods of Northeast Philadelphia, as well as the first ring of suburbs of Montgomery County. Congresswoman's Schwartz's long career in the health care and her membership on the Ways and Means Committee position her as one of Congress's strongest and most vocal advocates for academic medicine institutions in southeastern Pennsylvania and around the country. In particular she has championed the expansion of Medicare-funded graduate medical education positions, new loan repayment programs for medical professionals, and fair and robust payments to our nation's safety net hospitals. She is the sponsor of legislation, H.R. 3664, to provide new flexibility and incentives for academic medical centers to lead delivery system innovation and widespread reform. Her other health policy priorities include strengthening the primary care workforce, making preventive care more accessible, enacting common-sense insurance market reforms, supporting health research, and ensuring that all Americans have access to high-quality, affordable health coverage.

Congressman Patrick J. Tiberi

Patrick J. Tiberi (R-OH)

Congressman Patrick J. Tiberi is serving his fifth consecutive term as a common-sense leader representing the people of Ohio's 12th District, working to achieve a more fiscally responsible and accountable government. During the 110th Congress, he was named to the Ways and Means Committee, which oversees issues that affect all Americans, like taxes, Social Security, Medicare, trade and health care. He is an active member on the Ways and Means Committee, serving as the Ranking Member on the Select Revenue Subcommittee and as a member of the Income Security and Family Support Subcommittee and the Social Security Subcommittee. Congressman Tiberi hopes to use his committee and subcommittee appointments to ensure retirement security, make health care more available and affordable, and encourage responsible tax reform.
