AAMC Policy on the Use of Animals in Medical Research and Education
In September 2008, the AAMC issued a revised policy statement strongly affirming the essential and irreplaceable role of research involving live animals in the advancement of biological knowledge, human health, and animal welfare. The policy also supports the use of animals to meet essential educational objectives.

Fulfilling the Promise
A joint effort between the AAMC and the National Institutes of Health, "Fulfilling the Promise" highlights the biomedical research collaboration between the NIH and academic medicine.

International Scholars Span the Globe to Learn by Doing
Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, in partnership with the AAMC, is using a National Institutes of Health grant to establish the Fogarty International Center Clinical Research Scholar Program.

Overseas Fellowships in Global Health and Clinical Research Awards fellowships for mentored research training at top-ranked NIH-funded research centers in developing countries to graduate level U.S. health professions students. Sponsored by NIH's Fogarty International Center.

Industry Funding of Medical Education: Report of an AAMC Task Force
This report by the Task Force on Industry Funding of Medical Education urges medical schools and teaching hospitals to adopt policies that prohibit drug industry gifts and services to physicians, faculty, residents, and students, and to curtail the involvement of industry in continuing medical education activities.

Protecting Patients, Preserving Integrity, Advancing Health: Accelerating the Implementation of COI Policies in Human Subjects Research
This report, issued by the AAMC and the Association of American Universities, calls on all medical schools and major research universities to develop and implement institutional Conflicts of Interest (COI) policies within the next two years, and to refine standards for addressing individual financial COI.

Principles for Protecting Integrity in the Conduct and Reporting of Clinical Trials
The AAMC adopted these principles to strengthen the role of U.S. medical schools and teaching hospitals as trusted and reliable sources of research information. They are intended to apply to all clinical trials conducted in academic medical institutions.
