MCAT Research

The primary goal of the research undertaken by the Section for the MCAT is to understand the relationships between cognitive and non-cognitive behaviors in the premedical years and at various stages of medical school, residency, and medical practice, for the purpose of improving the quality of the MCAT. MCAT research studies reflect mainly non-experimental and survey research, and include both quantitative and qualitative approaches.

Among the areas explored in the bibliography are the relationship between performance on the MCAT and performance at difference stages of medical education, test validity, reliability and equating issues, medical college selection procedures, and issues related to acceptance to medical school. Most of these research studies have been published in "Academic Medicine." The others have been presented as papers at various professional conferences.
