Leaders of AAMC-member institutions met with lawmakers and key congressional staff in Washington, D.C, to discuss academic medicine priorities, including funding for the National Institutes of Health, graduate medical education, and ensuring the viability of academic medicine. Medical school deans and health system executives shared how their institutions are advancing medical research, patient care, medical education, and health equity in communities across the country and the importance of strong congressional support to sustain these critical missions. Coordinated by the AAMC and facilitated by their institutions’ government relations officers, the leaders’ visits coincided with a reception and congressional resolution commemorating the inaugural Academic Medicine Week.
