The AAMC submitted comments to the National Institute of Health’s (NIH’s) National Cancer Institute (NCI) on July 6 in response to a request for information (RFI) on enhancing diversity and inclusion in the cancer research workforce.

The RFI is gathering stakeholder input to inform NCI’s recently launched Equity and Inclusion program, focused on ending structural racism in biomedical research and supporting NIH’s UNITE initiative [refer to Washington Highlights, March 5].

In its letter, the AAMC emphasized its commitment to addressing racial inequities in biomedical research and cited detailed recommendations that the association previously submitted to the NIH on this topic [refer to Washington Highlights, April 8]. The comments also stressed the importance of continued engagement of the extramural research community in NCI’s efforts to increase diversity and inclusion in the workforce.
