The AAMC June 2 submitted comments to the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) on the proposal for a research security program standard requirement, which will be mandatory for any institution receiving over $50 million per year in federal research funding.

In its letter, the AAMC emphasized that implementing a research security program will require significant time, resources, and a wide-ranging effort from institutions. The association recommended that any requirements contain flexibility for institutions to leverage existing programs and take a risk-based approach to prioritize activities which will have the greatest impact on strengthening research security in their specific environment.
