The House Energy and Commerce Committee convened a markup of 16 bills on Sept. 18. During the markup, the committee passed the Telehealth Modernization Act (H.R. 7623) in a 41-0 vote. H.R. 7623 would extend key COVID-19-era telehealth flexibilities, a policy the AAMC supports, for two years, until Dec. 31, 2026 [refer to Washington Highlights, March 15]. The legislation also includes a five-year extension of the AAMC-supported Acute Hospital Care at Home program until Dec. 31, 2029. However, the legislation also contains an AAMC-opposed provision that would administratively burden hospitals by imposing a unique identifier and attestation requirement on hospital outpatient departments [refer to Washington Highlights, Sept. 15, 2023].
