The House Ways and Means Committee held a July 26 markup and, in a 25-16 vote, advanced the Health Care Price Transparency Act of 2023 (H.R. 4822). The legislation included measures to codify hospital price transparency regulations, establish an additional Medicare sequester on hospitals, and impose so-called site-neutral payment policies on drug administration services. In a 23-17 vote, the committee also advanced the Providers and Payers COMPETE Act (H.R. 3284), which would require the Health and Human Services secretary to issue a report on the consolidation of health care providers and payers.

The AAMC has opposed burdensome reporting and transparency requirements [refer to Washington Highlights, May 5].
