On Nov. 14, the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) announced a new Rural Residency Planning and Development (RRPD) grant program application. The total estimated program funding for this grant cycle is $11,250,000 for a maximum of 15 RRPD awards. Grant recipients receive up to $750,000 disbursed over three years, which eligible hospitals and clinical training sites may use to offset the costs of starting new rural residency programs or new rural track programs. It is estimated that funds will be available for awardees starting in August 2024. Eligible specialties include family medicine, internal medicine, preventative medicine, psychiatry, general surgery, and obstetrics-gynecology. Additional resources regarding the grant are available on the HRSA website, and the application will close on Feb. 12, 2024.
