The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) May 24 announced a notice of funding opportunity for the fiscal year (FY) 2020 Children’s Hospitals Graduate Medical Education (CHGME) Payment Program. The CHGME Payment Program supports the education and training of residents in freestanding children’s teaching hospitals, which receive little or no funding for GME through the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) due to their low Medicare caseload.
HRSA anticipates approximately $305 million to fund between 55 and 65 awardees comprised of currently eligible or newly qualified hospitals. However, the precise amount of funding for the CHGME Payment Program will not be determined until FY 2020 federal appropriations are finalized. Phase 1 of applications are due to Grants.gov by July 23, 2019, and Phase 2 of applications are due by Aug. 7, 2019.
