Creating a New Recipe to Reach Southern California’s Kids
    Cedars-Sinai

Members of Cedars-Sinai’s Community Benefit Team, Marketing and Communications Department, and clinicians sought to extend the reach of the Healthy Habits community program to the virtual environment. The program helps children and their families learn about the value of nutrition and physical activity. To pivot during the pandemic, the team created short videos that creatively taught and inspired students and their families with healthy content and activities they could do together, filling a common need as everyone focused on staying home to stop the spread of COVID-19.

What was the most impactful part of your award-winning entry?
This project allowed our great community benefit work in nutritional education to continue even when our Healthy Habits instructors couldn’t go into local schools due to the pandemic.

    What challenge did you overcome?
One producer found a way to make all of these videos by herself when everything was shut down and additional crew support was not possible. We continued the important work of nutritional education for children in the Los Angeles community — especially in underserved areas — regardless of the pandemic.
