The AAMC Center for Health Justice on Nov. 13 submitted comments to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) on proposed updates to Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability in HHS programs or activities.

As noted in the proposed rule, “people with disabilities are often excluded from health programs and activities and denied an equal opportunity to participate in and benefit from quality health care.” In its letter, the Center for Health Justice expressed support for these long-awaited revisions to Section 504 and recommended additional considerations to facilitate equitable and effective health care for people with disabilities.
