The AAMC was among 115 diverse organizations in a June 12 letter to Senate leadership affirming support for President Joe Biden’s nominee, Monica Bertagnolli, MD, to be director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Bertagnolli currently serves as the NIH’s National Cancer Institute director; she will need to be confirmed by the Senate to assume the role.
AAMC President and CEO David J. Skorton, MD, and Chief Scientific Officer Ross McKinney Jr., MD, previously issued a May 15 statement in support of Bertagnolli’s pending nomination.
