The Department of Education announced on Jan. 30 delays in the processing of financial aid information that is used by higher education institutions to determine financial aid packages.

Derived from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and known as the Institutional Student Information Record (ISIR), this information will not be accessible until the first half of March, two months later than initially expected. This development could cause potential delays to the financial aid packaging process. Students will also not have the ability to submit corrections to the form until that time.

The department has been working to implement phased changes to streamline the FAFSA that were authorized by Congress in December of 2020. As a result of planned changes, release of the 2024-25 FAFSA was delayed until Dec. 30, 2023, roughly two months later than the form is typically available.

Updated 2024-25 FAFSA timelines and processing information has been posted to the department’s website for more information.
