Meet Joan: The Grandma Cuddler

This video tells the story of how longtime hospital volunteer Joan Hart provides love and a soothing touch to the newborns at NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital. In this video, we follow Joan as she makes her “rounds” through the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and get to see firsthand the impact she makes on the babies, their families, and hospital staff.
What was the most impactful part of your award-winning entry?
Being able to follow Joan as she does what she does best: bring love and joy to the tiniest of patients. Being a volunteer, like Joan, and dedicating your time and energy to a cause near and dear to your heart can truly transform lives and is a win-win for both sides.
What challenge did you overcome?
Navigating the NICU was a challenge in and of itself. We worked with a fantastic NICU team that helped us follow the necessary protocols for filming in the NICU.
