On Wednesday, May 30, 2018, the GBA Emerging Issues Committee held a webinar on Creating a New Health System Through Integration: the Nebraska Medicine Story.
During this presentation, the speakers discussed the journey traveled to integrate the teaching and community hospitals operated by the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) and the faculty practice of the UNMC College of Medicine (COM). In 2010, COM and faculty practice leadership recognized that a new approach to aligning the clinical and academic enterprise was required. Following intense internal deliberation, the dean and chairs of 15 clinical departments agreed to initiate discussions with university and hospital leadership with a goal of establishing a new health system. The audience heard experiences and lessons learned while creating Nebraska Medicine.
