How to Join

To become a member of the GBA, an individual must be appointed by his or her medical school dean or principal business officer. A letter from the dean (or his or her designee) or principal business officer is sufficient to establish membership immediately.

There is no cost to join, nor is there a limit to the number of institutional representatives appointed to the GBA. However, only one representative may be designated as an institution's principal contact (PBO).

Member Categories/Criteria

  • Principal Business Officer (PBO): The principal institutional contact to the GBA on matters involving finance and general institutional administration. This individual is usually the Chief Financial Officer of the medical school. Only one individual may serve as the PBO representative to the GBA.
  • Other Representative: Any staff member of an AAMC member medical school who has significant responsibilities involving medical school operations.

Benefits of Membership

If you regularly attend the GBA's professional development programs, you will not only gain new insights into your work but how to do it more skillfully. Starting with your first meeting you can develop a network of colleagues and peers who not only understand the challenges you confront daily in your position but who also are open and willing to share their own experiences coping with similar issues. In the GBA you can potentially forge friendships that will last throughout your career.

Resources for members include:

Group on Business Affairs (GBA) Virtual Community

We are excited to announce the launch of a dedicated group space in the AAMC Virtual Communities Network, your new hub for collaboration and communication with colleagues in the Group on Business Affairs (GBA) community. This platform will replace the GBA listservs you have previously used, offering an enhanced space to engage, share ideas, and stay connected.

What to Expect:

  • A dedicated community space tailored for senior business and administrative staff, department business managers, and human resources professionals.
  • Features to foster collaboration, including discussion boards, announcements, and email notifications.
  • A streamlined way to interact and share knowledge with your peers.
  • A library of relevant and timely resources.

Looking for Volunteers

Are you eager to engage with the GBA community? We are currently looking for volunteers to participate in a pilot phase for the GBA Virtual Community. In agreeing to be a volunteer, you will be expected to:

  • Create an account for the AAMC Virtual Communities or login to your account if you already have one.
  • Make a positive impact on the new community by:
    • “Liking” new members' welcome messages.
    • Initiating and replying to discussion posts. Show your peers how useful this community is by starting new discussions and answering posts or directing them to other discussions if a similar topic has been discussed previously.
    • Adding a profile picture. Research shows that people respond to people!
    • Updating your bio. Include your areas of expertise and interests to help peers connect with you.

Please complete the following MS Form by May 16 to be included in the pilot for the GBA Virtual Communities Network!

Please email our GBA team (gba@aamc.org) with any questions.
