Federal Grants

Health and Human Services: National Institutes of Health

“AAMC Career Development Program for Maximizing Opportunities for Scientific and Academic Independent Careers (MOSAIC) Scholars” has provided a total of $1,300,827 for the first four years of a five-year cooperative agreement that supports a multichannel education program for cohorts of National Institutes of Health (NIH)-awarded K99/R00 scholars.

“TRANSforming Bio-Medical Research & Academic Faculty through Opportunity, TRaining, & Mentorship (TRANSFORM)” is a subaward through the University of Pittsburgh that has provided $239,339 for the first four years of an expected five-year cooperative agreement, to partner in the creation of a longitudinal mid-career faculty career and leadership development program that builds upon the success of the existing AAMC Mid-Career MINFAC (Maximizing Impact and Networks for Faculty Advancement and Community Leadership Development Seminar.

The Arnold P. Gold Foundation

Funding from the foundation, such as a recent three-year $45,000 grant, supports the annual Arnold P. Gold Foundation in Medicine Award that is awarded at Learn Serve Lead: The AAMC Annual Meeting.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois

“Black Men in Medicine Illinois” is a multiyear $300,000 award to support pilot programs within Illinois in partnership with the Action Collaborative for Black Men in Medicine, which is a joint effort of the AAMC and the National Medical Association’s Action Collaborative.

The California Wellness Foundation

“Diversity and Inclusion Culture & Climate Self-Assessment Tool and Scorecard” is a multiyear $325,000 grant to develop and pilot a Diversity and Inclusion Culture & Climate Self-Assessment tool and scorecard at eight urban-based, undergraduate public universities and graduate medical and health professional schools in California, and inform legislative and educational policymakers about the pilot as a strategy for increasing the number of people underrepresented in medicine in the health care workforce.

Patrick and Catherine Weldon Donaghue Medical Research Foundation

“Building Learning Health Systems at the Point of Care” is a two-year $140,000 award to support an evaluation of Donaghue Greater Value Portfolio awardees and a convening to share models of learning health system design.

Robert Wood Johnson Foundation

“Summer Health Professions Education Program” is an annual award of approximately $1,000,000 to fund the National Program Office (NPO) that provides technical assistance and direction to 11 program sites that offer a pathway program for college students from all backgrounds who are interested in a health professions career. The NPO provides strategic direction and support for the centralized admissions services, communications and outreach, data, research and evaluation, curriculum, and alumni engagement. The program serves nearly 1,000 students each summer.

“Future Leaders in Health” is a single-year $211,505 award supporting an initiative to bolster narrative and action focused on demonstrating the systems level impact and outcomes of pathway programs.

“Indigenous Health, Education, and Resource Taskforce (IHEART): Building Capacity for American Indian and Alaska Native Health Workforce Development” is a three-year $998,074 award that supports a national American Indians and Alaska Natives (AIAN)-led collaborative to augment the engagement and representation of the AIAN community in the health workforce by creating "a network of networks" based on the strengths of Indigenous knowledge and ways.

The Sprague Foundation

Chicago-Pilot – Building a Premedical Advising System to Advance Workforce Diversity” is a multiyear $95,400 award to support the development, planning, and implementation of a pilot project in association with the Action Collaborative for Black Men in Medicine, which is a joint effort of the AAMC and the National Medical Association’s Action Collaborative.

The Sandra & Arnold Gold Humanism Research Fund

The Fund regularly provides funding to host dinner meetings and receptions during Learn Serve Lead: The AAMC Annual Meeting to connect and inform diverse stakeholders who are active researchers investigating the role of humanism within medicine and medical education.
