Data and Reports to Support a Thriving Biomedical Research Workforce

    Research Briefs and Other Publications

Our data and analysis efforts aim to expand the existing knowledge on the current state of trends in biomedical research, including federal grant funding and the biomedical workforce. Research briefs and other publications will be added on an ongoing basis below.

    Federal Grant Funding

The AAMC has been closely monitoring and analyzing the current state of National Institutes of Health (NIH) extramural funding, including overall obligations and funds flow, new awards, and grant terminations.

    Data Dashboard

Tracking NIH Funding. This page tracks multiple funding indicators for fiscal year (FY) 2026, including total awards, funding obligated, research training grants issued, and the use of multi-year funding. It will be updated regularly to provide timely insights into NIH funding trends.
