The AAMC-led Health Professions and Nursing Education Coalition (HPNEC) — an alliance of over 90 organizations representing a variety of schools, programs, and health professions — issued a March 11 statement (PDF) urging Congress to provide maximum funding for the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Title VII health professions and Title VIII nursing workforce development programs in fiscal year (FY) 2025 and ensure that each program receives no less than its FY 2024 funding level. The statement also highlighted the importance of the HRSA Title VII and VIII programs in addressing health workforce shortages and the need to avoid funding lapses to support health professionals and patients who benefit from these programs.
The statement was issued the same day that the House passed a full-year FY 2025 continuing resolution (CR) (H.R.1968) that would continue funding for most federal agencies at their FY 2024 levels through Sept. 30. As it relates to HRSA, the full-year CR would also remove the agency’s FY 2024 earmark funding, which was directed towards health care facilities construction and renovations and one-time grants that supported health-related activities. As a result, the CR would substitute FY 2025 funding for HRSA-wide activities and program support at $219.5 million.
