AAMC President and CEO David J. Skorton, MD, and Chief Public Policy Officer Danielle Turnipseed, JD, MHSA, MPP, issued a Feb. 25 statement on the House fiscal year 2025 budget resolution (H. Con. Res 14). The statement highlights the association’s concerns with the budget resolution’s instructions directing the House Energy and Commerce Committee to report legislation providing at least $880 billion in savings, noting that such a directive would “result in cuts to federal health programs, specifically Medicaid,” and “jeopardize both access to care for millions of Medicaid enrollees and the financial stability of the providers who care for them.” The AAMC previously highlighted these and other concerns in a Feb. 21 letter (PDF) to congressional leadership [refer to Washington Highlights, Feb. 21].

On Feb. 25, the House adopted the budget resolution by a party-line vote of 217-215. The House and Senate have differed in their approaches to the budget reconciliation process, with the House favoring one comprehensive package to address President Donald Trump’s domestic policy agenda, as compared to the Senate’s preferred two-bill strategy [refer to Washington Highlights, Feb. 14]. In order move the process forward, the House and Senate must now resolve the differences in their competing budget resolutions.
