    For Media Inquiries

On July 10, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) transmitted notice of a request for proposal (RFP) to VA facilities for increased graduate medical education positions made available through Section 103 of the Support the Resiliency of Our Nation’s Great Veterans Act of 2022, (STRONG Veterans Act) (P.L. 117-382). With a focus on veterans’ mental health, the VA is authorized to add 250 new health professions trainee slots between various disciplines, including psychiatry, psychology, advanced practice nursing, social work, licensed professional mental health counseling, and marriage and family therapy. The RFP will help fund a limited number of psychiatry residency positions at VA facilities, prioritizing rural locations, community-based outpatient clinics, and VA sites affiliated with minority-serving institutions.
