The House Energy and Commerce Committee on March 20 passed the AAMC-supported Dr. Lorna Breen Health Care Provider Protection Reauthorization Act (H.R. 7153) in a markup of 28 bills. The reauthorization bill would allow the Health Resources and Services Administration to continue to implement evidenced-based practices for preventing suicide and improving mental health and resiliency among health care professionals and for training health care professionals in appropriate strategies to address substance use disorders. The passage of the legislation follows a health subcommittee markup on March 12 [refer to Washington Highlights, March 15].
